At Alpaca we are building the global standard for brokerage infrastructure. As a US-headquartered self-clearing broker-dealer, we power stocks, ETFs, options, crypto, fixed income, and 24/5 trading through institutional-grade APIs. Hundreds of financial institutions across 40 countries rely on our platform to serve more than nine million brokerage accounts, and our recent Series D funding round brought total investment above $320 million. Our mission is to open financial services to everyone on the planet, and a globally distributed team of over 380 engineers, traders, and brokerage professionals works every day to make that vision real.
The role
We are hiring a DevOps Team Lead for the Core Foundation pod on a full-time, remote basis. This is a manager-level position focused on leading people and operations rather than day-to-day coding. You will guide a globally distributed engineering team that owns Heavy Compute, Core Networking, Stateful Data, Observability, and Cloud and Physical Infrastructure, ensuring our most critical systems remain reliable and scalable.
Core responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing, globally distributed engineering team while fostering a healthy team culture across multiple time zones.
- Own the planning and delivery of large-scale, yearly infrastructure initiatives that improve availability, resilience, and platform evolution.
- Drive change-management processes across engineering and product groups, coordinating complex rollouts, breaking down silos, and ensuring smooth adoption of systemic updates.
Skills and experience
- Proven success as an Engineering Manager, DevOps Lead, or Site Reliability Engineering Lead with experience managing globally distributed teams.
- Strong people-management skills focused on coaching, mentoring, and building culture across time zones.
- Deep expertise in engineering support frameworks, roadmap planning, and team prioritization methodologies.
- Hands-on ownership of change-management lifecycles and the ability to align diverse technical groups around major updates.
- Extensive experience running incident-management processes and sustainable global on-call rotations.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills for coordinating multi-stage technical deployments.
- Solid technical background in modern DevOps and SRE environments, including Kubernetes (GKE), Infrastructure as Code with Terraform, PostgreSQL, and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Thanos.
- Strategic mindset that stays steady amid shifting priorities and acts as the organizational anchor for core infrastructure work.
- Professional working proficiency in English.
Compensation and benefits
- Stock options.
- Medical insurance.
- One-time home-office setup budget of USD $500 for new hires.
- Monthly remote-work stipend of USD $150 via a company-provided card.
How to apply
If this leadership opportunity aligns with your experience and you share our values of staying curious, showing empathy, and being accountable, we encourage you to apply. We look forward to learning how you can help strengthen the foundation that powers financial services worldwide.
