We are The Athletic, a sports media organization powered by one of the largest global newsrooms in the industry. With a dedicated staff of over 450 professionals, we provide in-depth coverage for hundreds of professional and college teams across North America and the English Premier League. We are currently looking for a passionate individual to help us continue building the world’s best sports media app.
What is this role?
We are seeking a DevOps Engineer to join our Infrastructure team on a full-time, remote basis. This position is perfect for someone with at least one year of professional experience who is eager to improve our product availability and engineering productivity. You will work from anywhere to help us refine our scaling, monitoring, and alerting processes.
What will you do?
- Design and implement new infrastructure solutions using Terraform while focusing on performance and scalability.
- Collaborate with various engineering teams to translate technical requirements into high-quality, reliable internal tools and services.
- Take ownership of your code throughout the entire development lifecycle, including performing manual and automated testing and triaging live bugs to identify root causes.

- At least 2 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Proficiency with Terraform and modern CI/CD pipelines.
- Hands-on experience with AWS services, specifically Lambda, Elastic Beanstalk, ECS, Cloudfront, S3, and IAM.
- Familiarity with maintaining high-availability websites.
- Experience working with Cloud CDN technologies such as Fastly and Cloudflare.
- Strong communication skills in English.
