LawAdvisor was founded in 2015 in Melbourne, Australia, with a fearless and ambitious belief: that everybody should have access to justice.

We hypothesised that the high costs, inefficiencies, and difficulties of obtaining legal help could be overcome simply by providing greater access to legal information and by providing everybody with real-time access to high-quality, affordable lawyers online.

Our mission has since been supported by thousands of lawyers and has allowed us to expand and set up offices across the globe.  We've also attracted high profile investors and partners who have shared our mission to transform legal service delivery.

We're still not satisfied. The potential exists to completely revolutionise the practice of law. The start of this decade has delivered LawAdvisor with a new mandate: to overhaul and transform how lawyers work, and how people interact with and consume legal services, with state of the art legal practise management technology to (i) increase efficiencies; (ii) automate routine processes; (iii) increase transparency; (iv) bring the legal practice to the 21st century.

We Need… 

A mindful orchestrator 

A platform's spirit is mirrored by software. As a DevOps Engineer, you will bring all of the diverse forces together, bridging the software-hardware divide. You must plan, create, and manage cloud systems to ensure that sophisticated new technology is orchestrated seamlessly.

Your expertise in engineering, infrastructure architecture, cloud infrastructure, and security measures will enable you to create and maintain a solid, scalable infrastructure, respond to problems, and advise our engineering team on best practises.

In addition, you will use software engineering techniques to expedite software delivery.  You ensure that application development teams are as productive and as feasible throughout the software development process.

You'll be scrutinising the full software development lifecycle, from source to production at all times. You will devise a method for application developers to swiftly write and ship applications.

You Will… 

• Be at the core of the company’s technological systems: you will be accountable in the team for technical decision making, defining successful outcomes, and owning engineering execution.

• Be compelled to have a know-how of your product's features and clients’ pain points to be able to devise its infrastructure requirements, which you will translate to drop-in solutions.

• Establish a platform strategy that provides observability, layers of redundancy and limits the blast radius in the event of systems failure.

• Work alongside a team of talented engineers, designers, product managers and quality assurance specialists to direct priorities and ensure successful execution.

• Create and maintain a set of tools and workflows to allow engineers to ship code to production in an efficient and reliable manner.

• Perform cross-functional tasks supporting business projects, infrastructure projects, change management with our various infrastructure platforms (database, operating systems, application teams) as it pertains to implementation, configuration, troubleshooting, and upgrades.

• Lead implementation of compliance and security frameworks (ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials), ensuring platform systems and processes meet regulatory and data protection standards.

• Maintain a high standard of code quality and standards by evaluating, approving, and offering feedback on code submissions from your colleagues.

• Convey complex technical concepts clearly and succinctly because of your impeccable, top-class communications skills.

• Always on a lookout for new technologies: identify new and emerging technologies for adoption, drive consistent code reviews, propose changes where needed.

You Should Have… 

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science field or equivalent. 

• Minimum 2 years of experience in cloud platform technologies – AWS; and at least one scripting tools (Terraform, UNIX shell, etc.)

• Experience using an operational ticketing system to record changes and work history details such as Jira.

• Demonstrated ability to support and administer high-volume pre-release and production environments for internal-facing applications.

• You should have knowledge of disaster recovery concepts to effectively respond to incidents and mitigate disasters.

• Experience supporting advanced storage system software (Replication, Point-in-time Restoration, Tiered Backup strategies)

• Tangible understanding of the best and worst security practices, concepts, and real-world applications to successfully implement this knowledge to both application and infrastructure.

• Experience working within an agile framework 

• A roll-up-your-sleeves attitude: be an independent self-starter possessing excellent time management skills and be able to manage multiple implementation activities simultaneously.

• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills: you are the company's central communication hub who is in charge of communicating technical concepts to non-technical departments of the company, making sure that these are conveyed comprehensively.

• The ability to build domain and industry knowledge quickly.

Bonus Points… 

• Experience with Elixir, Phoenix, and PostgreSQL. 

• Previous experience in a startup environment.

• Experience working with a remote team.

• Experience working in the legal services industry.
