The Center for AI Safety is a prominent research and advocacy group dedicated to reducing societal risks associated with artificial intelligence. We tackle complex challenges through technical research, policy engagement, and various field-building initiatives. We are currently searching for a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our team on a full-time basis. In this hybrid role, you will manage our cloud-based GPU cluster and assist our research team in developing engineering projects that support our mission. Your work will directly empower researchers at prestigious institutions like Harvard, Stanford, Cambridge, and Berkeley, helping them conduct critical AI safety experiments.
Responsibilities
- Manage and scale our cloud infrastructure to ensure high performance and availability, while designing and testing necessary system upgrades.
- Monitor cluster resource usage and handle capacity planning to ensure efficient utilization, which includes generating detailed billing reports.
- Develop and maintain end-to-end web-based tools, dashboards, and public-facing websites to support our various research initiatives.
Requirements
We are looking for a versatile generalist who is comfortable working at the intersection of software development and infrastructure. You should have a strong background in the following areas:
- Proven experience in SRE or DevOps roles, specifically managing customer-facing systems in a 24/7 environment.
- Proficiency in full-stack development, including building simple tools or web applications with Flask and React.
- A solid grasp of distributed systems, including networking, storage, and security protocols.
- Familiarity with containerization tools like Docker or Apptainer is highly beneficial.
- Experience working with HPC systems, ML pipelines, or SLURM-based workflows is a plus.
