The opportunity
We are looking for a DevOps Engineer to join our Platform Elements team. This is a cross-functional, agile group dedicated to building the infrastructure products that empower our internal developers to ship software quickly, securely, and reliably. By focusing on a customer-centric approach, you will help us reduce the cognitive load on our product teams. You will play a vital role in managing our data infrastructure, ensuring our services are highly automated, and helping us evolve our cloud capabilities in a collaborative environment.
A day in the life
- You will own and manage our data infrastructure, ensuring that our systems remain performant and reliable for all Xero product teams.
- You will use AWS as our primary cloud provider, utilizing PowerShell and Python to drive automation across our environment.
- You will work with CI/CD tools such as TeamCity and Octopus Deploy to provision infrastructure and resolve incidents, including participating in a 24/7 weekly on-call rotation.

You are a mid-level engineer who thrives in a collaborative, open, and proactive team setting. You communicate clearly in English and bring a growth mindset to everything you do, embracing the idea that dedication and hard work lead to mastery. You possess high emotional intelligence and strong analytical skills, which help you tackle complex troubleshooting challenges with empathy and resilience.
Your technical background should include:
- Proven experience delivering code within a production environment.
- Hands-on implementation experience in AWS or similar cloud platforms.
- A solid understanding of Infrastructure as Code, API development, and containerization technologies.
- Familiarity with modern engineering principles and CI/CD systems.
