Detection Development Engineer at Censys

By maintaining the world’s largest SSL and TLS certificate database and performing daily IPv4 scans, we empower enterprise security teams to stay ahead of evolving threats. We are looking for a talented individual to join our engineering team and help us expand our visibility into the global attack surface.

What you'll be doing

• You will research and create custom fingerprints using our scan data to provide deeper context and enrichment for services and infrastructure across the internet.
• You will collaborate with our scanning team to refine our collection methods, payloads, and targets, ensuring we maintain the highest accuracy when identifying hardware and software versions.
• You will work alongside our rapid response unit to investigate and develop fingerprints for new threats and vulnerabilities as they emerge.

What you'll bring

• A bachelor’s degree in a technical field like Computer Science, Data Science, or Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least one year of experience working in network security, systems security, or security research.
• Strong technical knowledge of protocols including TLS, HTTP, SSH, SMB, and SMTP, along with a solid grasp of exploit techniques and CVSS scoring.
• Experience performing data analysis with tools like Google BigQuery or exploring scan data through platforms such as Censys Search or Shodan.
• Proficiency in using regular expressions and other pattern-matching techniques.
• The ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical team members.
• Excellent English communication skills and the ability to thrive both as an independent researcher and a collaborative cross-functional team member.

What you'll get

For this full-time, on-site role, we offer a salary range of $147,000 USD to $180,000 USD. In addition to your base salary, you will be eligible for a bonus and equity in the company.
