The role
We are seeking a Deputy Chief Information Security Officer to join our team on a full-time, remote basis. This is an executive-level position designed for a strategic leader who will partner directly with our Chief Security Officer to guide our cybersecurity posture. You will engage with our most senior leadership, including the Chair and Executive Director, while collaborating closely with our engineering and operations teams to ensure our digital infrastructure remains secure and resilient.
Core responsibilities
- Co-manage our cybersecurity operations by designing and maintaining effective security measures, conducting regular assessments, and leading our incident response efforts.
- Develop and implement comprehensive security policies and governance frameworks, while managing the cybersecurity budget and advocating for the tools necessary to protect our assets.
- Mentor and develop our security team, fostering a culture of high performance and proactive security awareness while maintaining strong relationships with external agencies like the FBI and DHS.
Skills and experience
To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:
- At least 10 years of experience in information or cybersecurity, with a minimum of 5 years in a managerial or leadership capacity.
- Deep expertise in cyber risk management and established frameworks such as NIST, ISO, CIS, and PCI-DSS.
- A proven background in securing technology organizations of varying scales, from startups to large enterprises.
- Hands-on experience with production systems, cloud environments, and crisis management.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate complex security risks into actionable insights for senior leadership and public-facing stakeholders.
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and a willingness to work unconventional hours when critical security needs arise.
- Note: Due to federal campaign finance regulations, this position is open only to U.S. citizens or U.S. green card holders.
Compensation and benefits
The starting salary for this position is $175,000 on an annualized basis. As a member of our team, you will also benefit from the flexibility of remote work. Please be aware that this role may require travel up to 15% of the time.
