Database Administrator at Argo Group

We are committed to a vibrant culture rooted in respect, wellness, and equality, and we are currently seeking a Senior Database Administrator to join our team in a hybrid capacity. This role is based in our Chicago office, where you will work onsite on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Key outcomes

• Maintain and support our Oracle database environment while collaborating with team members managing SQL, MySQL, and NoSQL systems.
• Execute system tuning, performance monitoring, and routine maintenance to ensure optimal database health.
• Provide technical expertise to developers, users, and application teams.
• Oversee database architecture and structure, ensuring high standards for data integrity, privacy, and security.
• Manage the database lifecycle, including the application of patches, version upgrades, and performance enhancements.
• Coordinate connections with external data sources and manage complex ETL processes to automate data loading and transfers.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of relevant professional experience in database administration.
• A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Deep expertise in Oracle, including the ability to write complex PL/SQL functions, procedures, packages, and triggers.
• Strong proficiency in data backup, recovery, security, and performance tuning.
• Experience managing database designs, partitioned tables, and version-controlled code.
• Demonstrated ability to work within a hybrid support model involving both onshore and offshore teams.
• Familiarity with database licensing, specifically regarding Microsoft SQL and Oracle.
• Excellent communication skills in English.

Preferred qualifications

• Five or more years of specific experience with Oracle.
• Three or more years of experience working with MySQL and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with cloud-based database services, such as Amazon RDS or Microsoft Azure SQL.
• Familiarity with product environments like Git or Bitbucket.
