At Nominal, we are building the future of how complex hardware is tested and validated. From rockets and satellites to nuclear reactors and autonomous drones, our platform helps engineers make sense of massive amounts of data to shorten review cycles and lower costs. We are backed by top tier investors like General Catalyst and Founders Fund, and our team is comprised of veterans from organizations like SpaceX, Palantir, and NASA. We are currently working closely with the United States Air Force and leaders in the aerospace and energy sectors to ensure that the next generation of physical systems reaches the field faster than ever before.
The opportunity
We are looking for a Senior Data Visualization Engineer to join our team on a full-time, on-site basis. In this role, you will be the primary architect of our end-user visualization experience. You will take ownership of our data visualization strategy, helping us define the APIs and tools that allow our users to interact with complex telemetry and sensor data. This is a chance to build best-in-class interfaces that push the boundaries of what is possible in engineering software, directly impacting how critical hardware systems are validated.
A day in the life
- You will design and implement sophisticated 2D and 3D data visualization libraries from the ground up using WebGL or D3.
- You will evaluate and integrate existing industry-standard tools like Cesium, Deck.gl, and Vega to enhance our platform capabilities.
- You will collaborate with our engineering team to refine our data serialization APIs, ensuring that our frontend remains performant and intuitive.
Who you are
You are a seasoned engineer who thrives at the intersection of numerical methods and frontend development. You have a deep understanding of JavaScript and TypeScript, and you are comfortable working with low-level graphics libraries. We value candidates who have a strong portfolio of work, whether it is on GitHub, Observable, or through contributions to open-source graphics projects. You are fluent in English and bring an opinionated, expert perspective on how to represent complex data in a way that is both functional and beautiful.
