We are currently expanding the JumpCloud Engineering team and are looking for a dedicated Data Technical Team Lead to join us. Our Data Enablement group is focused on a vision where data serves as a primary driver for both our company and our customers. We are currently building the foundational technology and processes needed to elevate the capabilities of our product and our data warehouse infrastructure. As we introduce an event-based architecture and refine our data models to support our growth strategy, we need a leader who possesses an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for solving complex data engineering challenges. This is a remote, full-time position that requires a unique blend of people management and hands-on technical contribution.
Key outcomes
- Manage, mentor, and grow a diverse team of high-potential data engineers.
- Design and develop critical data infrastructure that supports business analysis, product development, machine learning operations, and executive strategy.
- Collaborate with product engineering teams and internal stakeholders to ensure they are successful in utilizing our data systems.
- Influence our engineering practices, product strategy, and overall execution.
- Define best practices, drive architectural decisions, and ensure high product quality across the team.
- Partner with other engineering leaders to build and inspire a world-class organization.
- Provide technical oversight and guidance on team projects while maintaining your own proficiency in core data engineering skills.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience leading or managing data teams within a public cloud environment, such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- A minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience as a data engineer.
- Strong foundation in software engineering principles and techniques.
- Proven experience working within agile scrum teams.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A track record of managing cross-functional teams, including software, data, and quality engineers.
- Experience leading geographically diverse teams in a remote-first environment.
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Fluency in English.
Preferred qualifications
- Proficiency in Python 3 development and software engineering best practices.
- Advanced SQL skills for data analysis and transformation.
- Experience with Snowflake data warehouses or similar technologies.
- Familiarity with Dremio data lakehouses.
- Knowledge of Apache Kafka and its supporting ecosystem.
- Experience building observable data systems and managing data governance, including schema management and data contracts.
- Understanding of data security standards, such as RBAC and sensitive data handling.
- Background in data modeling and data architecture.
