As an independent community organization based in Melbourne, we work tirelessly to end homelessness by providing high-quality housing alongside a wide range of support, education, and employment services. With a dedicated team of over 400 staff across 16 locations, we combine direct action with research and innovation to create real, lasting change for thousands of people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. We are looking for someone who shares our passion and wants to use their technical expertise to help us build a better future.
The opportunity
We are embarking on a major data uplift project to enhance our services and support early intervention through better data capability. We are seeking a Senior Data Specialist to serve as the internal technical lead for this transformation. In this role, you will bridge the gap between our business needs and our technical infrastructure, working closely with IT teams and external partners to implement a new cloud data warehouse and business intelligence environment. This is a full-time, maximum-term position based on-site in Australia, running until March 2026.
A day in the life
- You will design and develop robust data models while implementing efficient ETL processes to ensure the accuracy and quality of our information.
- You will create interactive Power BI dashboards and reports that translate complex data into actionable insights for our teams.
- You will act as a mentor and technical guide, helping internal staff upskill in data practices and collaborating with stakeholders to define project requirements.
Who you are
You are an experienced professional who thrives on solving complex problems and communicating technical concepts to diverse audiences. You have a strong background in data modeling and SQL, and you are comfortable working within Azure services. You possess the ability to lead technical projects while maintaining a collaborative spirit, and you are deeply committed to our mission of ending homelessness. Proficiency in English is essential for this role, and you should hold a degree in a related field such as Computer Science or Data Analytics.

We value our people as the backbone of our organization, and we are committed to supporting your wellbeing and professional growth. When you join us, you gain access to a supportive, progressive environment that includes an Employee assistance program. We also offer a variety of benefits to help you balance your work and personal life, including:
- Flexible working arrangements and purchased leave options.
- Generous leave provisions, including 17.5% leave loading and 8 weeks of gender-neutral paid parental leave.
- Opportunities for professional development and training across the organization.
- The ability to maximize your take-home pay through tax-free salary packaging for personal, dining, and accommodation expenses.
