Data Scientist at CSC Generation

CSC Generation is an AI-native holding company dedicated to re-engineering the retail landscape. We acquire iconic brands and revitalize them through Genesis, our proprietary operating platform that integrates a robust data fabric, automation engines, and shared services. With over $1 billion in annual revenue across 13 brands, including Sur La Table, Backcountry, and One Kings Lane, we serve as a real-world innovation lab for modern commerce. We are currently seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join our team in a remote capacity. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, you will play a central role in building the machine learning systems that drive decision-making across our entire portfolio.

Key outcomes

• Design, develop, and deploy end-to-end machine learning models, managing the full lifecycle from initial experimentation to production monitoring.
• Integrate predictive models into core business functions, such as demand forecasting, pricing optimization, customer segmentation, and personalization.
• Create scalable, reusable data science frameworks that can be applied effectively across our various retail brands.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and analytics teams to translate complex business challenges into rigorous technical solutions.
• Evaluate and prototype emerging AI tools to continuously advance the capabilities of our Genesis platform.
• Document model logic and performance benchmarks to foster institutional knowledge and support cross-functional reuse.
• Promote an AI-first culture by leading knowledge-sharing initiatives and establishing internal best practices.

Requirements

• At least 4 years of professional experience in data science, machine learning, or a related applied field.
• Proven ability to successfully transition machine learning models from experimental phases into production environments.
• Strong proficiency in Python and essential data science libraries such as scikit-learn, XGBoost, PyTorch, or TensorFlow.
• Advanced SQL skills with experience handling large-scale, complex datasets.
• Practical experience with cloud-based data platforms like Snowflake or BigQuery.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical tradeoffs and model outcomes to non-technical stakeholders.
• Prior experience applying machine learning techniques within the retail, e-commerce, or consumer data sectors.
• Fluency in English.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience working with Large Language Models or integrating GenAI APIs into production workflows.
• Familiarity with MLOps tools for model monitoring, versioning, and automated retraining.
• Background in a multi-brand or holding company environment where solutions require cross-unit scalability.
• Experience with infrastructure designed for real-time or near-real-time model serving.
• Knowledge of AI governance, model explainability, and fairness frameworks.
