At VEIR, we are working to provide the world with access to clean, reliable, and affordable energy. To achieve this, we are developing a new generation of High Temperature Superconductor transmission lines. Our technology enables long-distance, low-loss power transfer within much smaller right-of-ways, effectively removing the primary barriers to expanding global electricity networks. We are looking for a dedicated professional to help us unlock the transmission capacity needed to drive significant reductions in global greenhouse gas emissions.
About the Role
We are seeking a Data Scientist-Power Systems Lead to join our team on a full-time basis. In this senior role, you will be responsible for building and maintaining the analytical tools that help us identify strategic growth opportunities and execute our daily business operations. You will collaborate closely with our commercial, regulatory, and product development teams to evaluate our analytical toolkit and highlight the value of our innovative hardware technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and utilize a suite of analytical models that integrate into our strategic growth, commercial pipeline, and product development efforts.
- Perform detailed studies to understand how our transmission lines integrate into and operate with existing power system infrastructure.
- Partner with our transmission line design engineers to propose project options that address specific customer needs.
Requirements
We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a strong background in power systems and data science. You should have a degree in electrical or power systems engineering, environmental science, technology policy, economics, or a related field. Key qualifications include:
- Proven competency in Python and experience managing large, structured databases.
- Demonstrated experience with geospatial databases and techno-economic optimization.
- Experience working in a startup, product development environment, or as an energy industry consultant.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional team.
- Familiarity with power flow analysis tools and capacity expansion models like ReEDS.
Preferred qualifications include an MS or PhD in a related field, as well as experience with front-end and back-end technology stacks.
