At VEIR, we are working to make clean, reliable, and affordable energy accessible to everyone by expanding global electricity transmission networks. We are currently developing a new generation of High Temperature Superconductor transmission lines, which allow for low-loss, cost-effective power transfer over long distances using smaller footprints. By overcoming the traditional barriers to transmission expansion, our innovations help the world access the most affordable renewable energy available. We are looking for a Data Scientist-Power Systems Lead to join our team and help us drive our strategic growth and product development through advanced analytical modeling.
What you'll be doing
- Develop and maintain a robust suite of analytical tools and models that support our commercial pipeline, regulatory efforts, and strategic growth initiatives.
- Collaborate with our transmission line design engineers to identify optimal project locations and propose specific technical solutions that meet our customers' needs.
- Perform detailed studies to evaluate how our superconductor technology integrates with and operates alongside existing power system infrastructure.
What you'll bring
To succeed in this role, you should be a self-motivated professional with a background in power systems, electrical engineering, technology policy, or a related field. We value your ability to solve complex problems creatively, especially when data is limited.
- Technical Proficiency: You possess strong skills in Python and have experience managing large, structured databases. You are also familiar with geospatial analysis and techno-economic optimization.
- Domain Expertise: You are experienced with power flow analysis tools and transmission capacity expansion models like ReEDS.
- Communication and Collaboration: You can clearly explain technical findings and project risks to both internal team members and external partners. You thrive in fast-paced, team-oriented environments.
- Language Skills: You are fluent in English.
- Preferred Qualifications: An MS or PhD is highly valued, as is experience working in an early-stage technology start-up or energy consulting. Proficiency in additional tools like JavaScript, R, Julia, MATLAB, or AWS is a significant plus.
What you'll get
We are committed to supporting our team members and fostering a collaborative work environment. As part of our commitment to flexibility, this position offers:
- Hybrid work arrangements.
