We are looking for a Senior Data Science Developer to join our Business Engineering team on a full-time, on-site basis in the United Kingdom.
Key outcomes
- Lead the creation of Natural Language Processing (NLP) models designed for document intelligence, specifically focusing on classifying documents and extracting essential information from unstructured text.
- Manage the full lifecycle of machine learning solutions, covering everything from initial data annotation to deploying models and monitoring their performance in production.
- Utilize Amazon SageMaker and broader AWS infrastructure to build, scale, and optimize NLP models.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners to integrate AI-driven automation into our existing business workflows.
- Partner with business stakeholders to identify opportunities where machine learning can improve operational efficiency, enhance controls, and drive growth.
- Act as a subject matter expert, sharing knowledge on AI trends and data science best practices with your colleagues.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of professional experience in a Data Science or Machine Learning capacity.
- A minimum of 3 years of commercial software development experience using Python.
- Proven technical expertise in NLP, including document classification and information extraction techniques.
- Hands-on experience building and managing end-to-end ML pipelines on AWS.
- Strong proficiency with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face, or spaCy.
- The ability to establish robust benchmarks and metrics to evaluate model accuracy in real-world environments.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with a track record of analyzing complex issues and prioritizing solutions that deliver significant impact.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset, with a focus on working effectively within a team.
- Fluency in English.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with information retrieval tasks, including the generation of embeddings using BERT, Word2Vec, or TF-IDF.
- Practical knowledge of working with searchable databases like Elasticsearch, including indexing and query optimization.
- Experience with semantic search techniques, such as similarity search and ranking, to improve document retrieval efficiency.
