The role
We are seeking a Senior Data Performance Engineer to join our team on a full-time basis. This is a remote position available to candidates anywhere in the world. In this role, you will focus on our flagship product, Starburst Galaxy, helping us push the boundaries of internet-scale data lake analytics. You will be instrumental in analyzing performance metrics, benchmarking our solutions against the market, and shaping the future of our platform through strategic testing and technical recommendations.
Core responsibilities
- Develop a deep mastery of the Starburst Galaxy architecture to provide expert guidance on performance issues across the entire product lifecycle.
- Design and implement comprehensive performance testing strategies, including the creation of instrumentation to compare our solutions against current market offerings.
- Work alongside our product management, engineering, and solutions teams to refine our performance roadmaps and drive continuous product improvement.
Skills and experience
To succeed in this role, you should possess a strong background in performance engineering and a passion for data systems. We are looking for the following qualifications:
- At least 5 years of experience with performance testing design and best practices.
- Proven hands-on experience analyzing and benchmarking complex SaaS products.
- Proficiency in SQL, specifically for data warehousing and analytics use cases.
- Practical experience with software development using Python or Java.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate technical performance concepts for both engineering peers and executive leadership.
- A solid foundational understanding of databases, data processing, and data warehousing.
