We are looking for a Data Engineer to join our team on a contractor basis. In this role, you will apply engineering best practices to improve the software systems and products that power public transit. This is a fresh position within our Customer Technology group, where you will evaluate emerging data technologies while maintaining our existing infrastructure. We prioritize the use of cloud services, open-source software, and modern tools to ensure we deliver the highest possible value to our riders. This role is fully remote, though we can only hire residents of ME, MA, NH, RI, and VT.
Responsibilities
- Develop production-quality software while creating robust unit and integration tests.
- Design scalable system architectures and structure data for use by various internal departments.
- Collaborate closely with product, design, and engineering teams to solve problems, share knowledge, and protect the privacy of our riders.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you should have a solid grasp of fundamental programming concepts and a desire to use functional programming to solve complex challenges. We require at least two years of professional software development experience and a willingness to work across the full stack as project needs evolve. While not mandatory, we highly value candidates who possess the following skills and experience:
- Proficiency in Elixir, Python, Ruby, or SQL.
- Experience working with AWS Glue or Spark.
- Familiarity with Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code tools.
- Expertise in visualization tools like Tableau or PowerBI.
- Knowledge of GTFS or real-time transit information systems.
What we offer
The compensation for this contract position ranges from $142,000 to $185,000 per year, based on a rate of $75 to $98 per hour for up to 1,880 hours annually. In addition to competitive pay, we offer the flexibility of remote work.
