We are searching for a Senior Data Engineer to join our team on a full-time, hybrid basis in the United Kingdom. At VivaCity, we are dedicated to making cities safer, smarter, and more sustainable. We utilize a global network of over 5,000 AI sensors to gather anonymous, real-time data on traffic flow and transport patterns, providing actionable insights that help improve urban infrastructure. Our work is rooted in privacy-by-design principles, and we pride ourselves on a collaborative culture that fosters innovation while maintaining a strong sense of community. You will join our Cloud and Infrastructure team to help manage our systems, improve service reliability, and take primary ownership of our Apache Kafka platform.
Responsibilities
- Enhance the performance and efficiency of our data systems, with a specific focus on managing our core Kafka Strimzi instances.
- Take charge of incident response, ensuring that all relevant stakeholders remain informed throughout the process.
- Develop and maintain our observability, monitoring, and alerting infrastructure to ensure high availability of our production services.
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you should possess a strong technical background and a passion for solving complex problems. We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:
- Extensive experience with Apache Kafka, particularly regarding broker management, scaling, and integration with data pipelines.
- Proficiency in Unix-based systems, specifically Linux environments like Ubuntu.
- Practical experience managing cloud infrastructure, ideally using Kubernetes on Google Cloud Platform.
- A proven ability to create clear technical and process documentation.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities.
