At Edge & Node we are building the indexing and query layer that powers open data across web3. Our work centers on The Graph, the protocol that lets developers create and query subgraphs so applications can access blockchain information quickly and reliably. We focus on decentralizing infrastructure, reducing reliance on trusted intermediaries, and giving builders the tools they need to create permissionless data services that anyone can use.
The role
We are hiring a Senior Data Engineer to join the Graph Node team on a full-time remote basis. In this position you will work directly on graph-node, our open-source Rust project that serves as the core indexing engine for The Graph Network. You will help evolve how the system ingests, stores, and serves large volumes of blockchain data while maintaining compatibility for thousands of existing subgraphs and operators.
Core responsibilities
- Improve Graph Node’s data processing and querying capabilities by analyzing the existing Rust codebase, proposing changes, and validating those changes through performance tests and production monitoring.
- Review pull requests from teammates and take ownership of the reviewed code, ensuring that new contributions meet the same standards you would apply to your own work.
- Document key aspects of the software so that the large community of independent node operators can understand how to configure, run, and observe Graph Node effectively.
Skills and experience
You have contributed more than ten thousand lines of code to production software and are comfortable working inside a large, established codebase. You think about data naturally in SQL terms and understand the theory behind data systems, including relational algebra and fundamental structures such as BTrees, LSM Trees, and common compression formats. You are interested in higher-level query languages like GraphQL and in federated data frameworks. You recognize how small design decisions can have outsized effects in big-data environments and know how to balance academic rigor with the practical need to ship usable software. Experience with Rust is required, along with a solid grasp of tracing, debugging, and performance evaluation in complex systems. Professional working proficiency in English is necessary for collaboration across our remote team.
Compensation and benefits
The market range for this role is $100,000 to $500,000 annually in total compensation. In addition to competitive pay, we offer remote work, equity compensation, flexible hours, and support for professional development. We foster a merit-based culture that values personal growth and an ego-free environment.
How to apply
If this description matches your background and interests, we encourage you to apply. Please submit your application along with examples of relevant work so we can learn more about how you could contribute to Edge & Node and The Graph.
