At Brilliant, our mission is to cultivate a world of great problem solvers. We focus on helping adults master quantitative skills, particularly in math, data science, and computer science, through a best-in-class interactive learning experience. We believe in teaching the essentials of logical deduction, statistical analysis, and neural networks while skipping unnecessary abstractions. With hundreds of thousands of paid subscribers and high double-digit year-over-year growth, we are building a sustainable, mission-driven business that is already profitable. We value excellence, adventure, and candor, and we are looking for passionate individuals to help us scale our impact to millions of learners.
The role
We are looking for a Senior Creative Technologist to join our team on a full-time, remote basis. In this role, you will bridge the gap between engineering and design to build the interactive programs that power our educational content. You will be part of a highly collaborative engineering organization, working alongside artists, subject matter experts, and other developers to transform complex scientific concepts into engaging, polished visual experiences. This position is ideal for an experienced developer who possesses a strong creative eye and a desire to push the boundaries of how people learn.
Core responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with course producers and engineers to translate concept sketches and prototypes into production-ready interactive programs.
- Develop and maintain a library of reusable, well-documented code packages to streamline production and enable the scaling of interactive visuals across our platform.
- Work alongside designers and artists to integrate our unique visual style, including UI components and character assets, into interactive diagrams that maintain a consistent world for our learners.
Skills and experience
To be successful in this role, you should have a strong background in interactive media and a passion for educational technology. We value candidates who can demonstrate the following:
- At least 4 years of professional experience in a technical field, such as software engineering, game development, or computer graphics.
- A strong portfolio showcasing creative coding, iteration, and exploration using frameworks such as P5.js, Processing, or similar tools.
- Proficiency in web standards, including HTML, CSS, and TypeScript.
- Experience or a strong interest in functional programming, specifically Elm, which is central to our internal authoring engine.
- A solid understanding of interaction design principles, including composition, perspective, and color theory.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
Compensation and benefits
We are committed to a transparent and systematic compensation framework that ensures fair pay based on expected contribution rather than negotiation skills. We offer a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your well-being and professional growth:
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance with 100% of premiums covered for employees.
- Generous parental leave and support for dependent healthcare coverage.
- Flexible time off, with a company norm of taking approximately 6 weeks of leave per year.
- A dedicated professional development stipend to support your ongoing learning.
- Support for a comfortable work environment, including home office equipment.
How to apply
If you are excited about the prospect of changing how the world learns math and science, we would love to hear from you. Please submit your application, including your portfolio of creative work, through our careers page. We look forward to reviewing your experience and discussing how you can contribute to our mission of building a world of great problem solvers.
