FlexRack by Qcells is a leader in the commercial and utility-scale solar mounting industry, providing integrated solutions that include custom-designed fixed tilt ground mounts and single-axis solar tracking systems. With a track record of completing over 3.5 GW of solar racking installations across North America and around the world, we offer comprehensive services ranging from engineering and geotechnical support to field layout design. We are currently seeking a Controls Engineer to join our team in Highland Hills, Ohio. This role is a full-time position that operates on a hybrid schedule, requiring four days in the office and one day of remote work per week.
Key outcomes
- Develop a deep understanding of our existing solar tracker control systems and act as the primary point of contact for customer inquiries regarding controls.
- Collaborate with our research and development teams to design and implement innovative solar tracker control strategies.
- Integrate control systems with our broader data science, software, and firmware engineering teams to ensure seamless performance.
- Serve as the internal subject matter expert on industry standards, including SCADA, NERC CIP, NERC Mod, and relevant IEC, UL, and IEEE requirements.
- Provide technical support to our field services team during site commissioning and the troubleshooting of installation issues.
- Analyze market trends and customer feedback to propose product enhancements and contribute to our long-term technology roadmaps.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation, including wiring diagrams, network architecture, and bill of materials.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, with a preference for Electrical Engineering.
- At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in the utility solar market.
- Proficiency in communication protocols such as Modbus TCP/IP, CAN, Zigbee, and SCADA.
- Experience with power plant controls modeling and familiarity with UL Certification and international codes.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- The ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
- Fluency in English.
Preferred qualifications
- A Master’s degree in Engineering.
- Experience working with FPGA.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
- NABCEP certification.
