Contract: Lead JavaScript Developer at Upwork

The opportunity

We are seeking a Lead JavaScript Developer for a long-term contract position. You will play a vital role in building out one of our most complex single-page applications. Your work will focus on sophisticated user interfaces, including candidate application tracking, messaging systems, and real-time interactions that help our users navigate the hiring process. You will leverage a modern tech stack that includes Vue.js, Nuxt.js, Angular.js, Web Components, AWS, Docker, microservices, and Symfony to create tools that millions of freelancers rely on every day.

A day in the life

• You will collaborate closely with a cross-functional team of over 15 engineers, product managers, and designers to develop and ship outstanding features.
• You will take ownership of our UI components to ensure and maintain a consistently high level of quality across the platform.
• You will participate in at least three weekly meetings, typically scheduled in Eastern time, to align on project goals and solve complex client needs.

Who you are

You are a senior-level developer with at least 8 years of professional software experience. You possess a deep understanding of modern JavaScript, CSS, and HTML, and you have extensive experience working with frameworks like Vue, React, or Angular. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated and capable of managing their own time effectively. You should have a solid grasp of unit and end-to-end testing, as well as a foundational knowledge of accessibility guidelines, system design, and server-side languages like PHP or Node.js. Because our team is global, you must be comfortable conducting technical interviews and communicating fluently in English.
