At OXMAN, we operate as a hybrid design and research company that blends technology, biology, and design to create products and environments at every scale. We believe that the current divide between humanity and the natural world can be healed through design, and we are committed to a nature-centric approach that fosters a synergy between human-made structures and natural growth. Our team consists of deep thinkers and makers who use computation as a language to mediate these complex relationships, and we are looking for someone who shares our passion for systems-level impact to join us.
What is this role?
We are looking for a Lead Computational Design Engineer to join our interdisciplinary team on a full-time, on-site basis in the United States. This is a senior-level position for someone who possesses both technical expertise and aesthetic rigor. You will bridge the gap between digital design and physical realization by building custom tools and software that interface with industrial fabrication technologies.
What will you do?
- Develop sophisticated computational design processes and optimization tools that interface directly with industrial machinery and our own custom prototypes.
- Conduct high-level research in fields such as computational geometry, fabrication, intelligence, or dynamics to inform and support our diverse range of projects.
- Create prototypes, 3D models, and pre-visualizations to guide our team through complex design decisions and communicate our research concepts to clients and the public.
What makes you a great fit?
To succeed in this role, you should have at least 4 years of software development experience with a specific focus on geometry and design. We value candidates who can demonstrate out-of-the-box thinking and a refined design sensibility through a strong portfolio. Your technical toolkit should include:
- Mastery of digital design platforms like SideFX Houdini and Rhino or Grasshopper.
- Advanced programming skills in Python or C++23, along with experience in relevant libraries.
- A solid understanding of university-level linear algebra and multivariable calculus.
- Practical knowledge of robotics, non-planar 3D printing, and machine interfacing methods.
- A collaborative spirit and the ability to work effectively alongside engineers, biologists, and designers.
What's in it for you?
We offer a competitive salary range of $75,000 to $225,000 USD, which is determined based on your unique skills, experience, and organizational needs. In addition to your base salary, our compensation package includes:
- Variable compensation through year-end bonuses.
- Equity participation.
- Comprehensive benefits.
- Immigration assistance.
