At Arbor, our team of world-class scientists and engineers is working to change the future of our planet. We are developing a scalable, affordable approach to Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage by using modern rocket engine technology. Our mission is to convert waste biomass into clean electricity, water, and high-purity carbon dioxide, which we then store permanently underground. By leveraging the power density of supercritical carbon dioxide, we are creating compact systems that remove carbon from the atmosphere while protecting food security and biodiversity. We are looking for people who share our passion for science and global stewardship to help us make high-quality carbon removal a reality.
The opportunity
We are seeking a Combustion Analysis Engineer to join our team on a full-time, on-site basis in the United States. In this role, you will perform critical fluid, thermal, and structural analyses on our novel combustion systems. You will work alongside our combustion engineers and designers to accelerate development by using advanced simulation tools and algorithmic workflows. Your contributions will be essential in bridging the gap between theoretical modeling and physical reality as you support system integration and validate our designs through hot-fire testing.
A day in the life
- You will conduct complex CFD, transient thermal, and structural analyses on our combustion hardware to ensure peak performance.
- You will partner with our mechanical and combustion engineering teams to create designs that are both practical and ready for rigorous testing.
- You will anchor your simulation results against real-world data gathered during hot-fire tests, allowing you to iterate on your models and improve their accuracy over time.
Who you are
You are an engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and possesses a strong sense of ownership over your work. You communicate effectively in English and bring a collaborative spirit to our small, dynamic team. Your background includes:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or a related engineering field.
- At least 3 years of professional experience in fluid dynamics, CFD, and transient thermal analysis.
- A deep understanding of both compressible and incompressible fluid mechanics.
- Proficiency with CFD software such as StarCCM+, ANSYS CFX, or FLUENT.
- Strong skills in Python, MATLAB, or similar scripting tools to automate tasks and handle post-processing.
We also value candidates who hold a Master’s or Ph.D. in a relevant engineering discipline, have 5 or more years of experience in propulsion or combustion analysis, or have previously worked in agile startup environments. If you have an interest in leading and growing an analysis team as we scale, we would love to hear from you.
Why you'll love it here
Arbor is an equal-opportunity employer. We believe that solving a global problem requires a diverse group of people bringing their unique ideas and experiences to the table. We are deeply committed to building an inclusive team and prioritize hiring individuals from underrepresented groups. You will have the chance to work on technology that has a direct, positive impact on the climate while collaborating with a group of dedicated professionals who are passionate about making a difference.
