We are Civis Analytics, a data and analytics company that helps organizations turn complex information into clear, actionable decisions. We are now expanding our platform and introducing standalone AI products, and we are seeking a Chief Technology Officer to guide our technical direction during this next stage of growth.
Key outcomes
- Shape and communicate the company’s long-term technical vision as a member of the senior leadership team.
- Own the technical roadmap for both the existing data platform and new AI products, ensuring alignment and scalability.
- Make architectural decisions across platform, data, and AI systems that balance speed, reliability, and maintainability.
- Act as a player-coach by remaining close to systems and delivery while enabling teams to work independently.
- Lead and integrate a cross-functional group of approximately 15 engineers, data specialists, and product professionals, serving as a visible technical leader and talent magnet.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, practices, and potential partnerships or acquisitions that support the company’s AI-focused direction.
- Represent Civis externally through industry relationships, press engagement, community contributions, and high-level client discussions.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience building and operating AI systems in production environments.
- Significant experience leading software, platform, or data engineering organizations in a hands-on capacity.
- Proven ability to own and evolve technical roadmaps across multiple products or platforms.
- Experience making architectural decisions for complex, data-driven systems.
- Willingness to engage directly with technical details when needed to resolve issues or support teams.
- Demonstrated success hiring, developing, and managing high-performing technical teams.
- Clear and direct communication style with the ability to make and stand behind difficult technical decisions.
- Hands-on experience with modern cloud platforms and distributed systems.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Proficiency in English.
Preferred qualifications
- Interest in actively building AI products rather than focusing solely on strategy.
- Comfort operating in ambiguous situations and making decisions with incomplete information.
- Experience guiding teams through a transition toward AI-centric development practices and tooling.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is 225000-325000. In addition to competitive pay, we offer remote work flexibility and equity compensation.
