Today, we operate a fleet of 16 ships and guide nearly 25,000 guests annually, all while maintaining our innovative partnership with National Geographic. We are looking for a dedicated Chief Engineer to join our team and help us ensure every guest experiences the exhilaration of discovery while maintaining the highest standards of safety and vessel performance.
What you'll be doing

- You will supervise and train the engine room team, including Assistant Engineers and the Engine Mechanic, while managing performance evaluations and daily task assignments.
- You will oversee regulatory compliance by working closely with the US Coast Guard and ABS inspectors, maintaining detailed logs, and ensuring all safety and environmental protocols are strictly followed.
What you'll bring
To succeed in this role, you should be a self-starter who thrives in a hands-on environment. We are looking for someone with the following qualifications:
- A degree from a maritime engineering school or a Designated Duty License, along with at least 2 years of experience as an engineer on 100-ton vessels.
- Strong technical expertise in diesel propulsion, electrical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and hotel support systems.
- Proficiency with computer systems and Windows-based software for maintenance tracking and administrative reporting.
- The ability to communicate clearly in English, both in writing and orally, to manage guest interactions and professional reports.
- Required certifications including a valid US Passport, a TWIC card, current First Aid/CPR, and STCW Basic Safety Training.
- A professional demeanor with the ability to work effectively in confined spaces and under pressure.
What you'll get
We offer a competitive compensation package for this full-time, on-site role, with a target daily base salary ranging from 150,000 USD to 179,000 USD, plus bonuses. In addition to your pay, you will receive:
- Vacation pay calculated at 10% of your daily rate for every day worked.
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.
- A 401(k) plan with an employer match.
- Seven paid holidays.
- Travel benefits for you and your family, along with paid travel expenses and travel day pay.
- Provided uniforms and ongoing training opportunities.
- Room and board provided while you are on your scheduled rotation.
