Kepler is on an audacious mission to bring the internet to space. Since our founding in 2015, we have been working to provide seamless connectivity across LEO, MEO, GEO, and beyond. With our first 23 satellites already in orbit and a growing base of early customers, we are scaling rapidly. We believe our team is our most important asset, and we are looking for passionate individuals to help us expand our reach and impact.
The role
We are seeking a Chief Engineer to join our team on a full-time, on-site basis within the United States. This is an executive-level position where you will own the technical execution of our growing portfolio of United States Government partnerships. You will serve as a primary leader, guiding satellite development programs from initial concept through launch, commissioning, and on-orbit operations.
Core responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of high-level technical solutions, taking concepts from inception through to successful launch and operational status.
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for United States Government customers, managing program reviews and ensuring all technical performance requirements are met.
- Identify barriers to success and implement mitigation strategies for key risks while holding technical teams accountable for scope, performance specifications, and schedule.
Skills and experience
To succeed in this role, you should possess a strong blend of technical expertise and strategic leadership. We require the following qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in an engineering or scientific field.
- At least 15 years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven experience working with both commercial and Federal customers.
- A track record as a strong technology leader with expertise in innovation strategy, strategic planning, and budgeting.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor technical teams within an agile environment.
- Experience with P&L ownership and cross-functional team building.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical topics in clear business terms to executive leadership and the Board.
- Must be a U.S. person.
Bonus points: A Master's degree or PhD in a technology or business discipline, and a current or active US DOD clearance.
Compensation and benefits
We are dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where all employees feel valued. We provide reasonable accommodations during the recruitment process for applicants with disabilities to ensure equal access.
