At MORSE, an employee-owned company in Cambridge's Kendall Square, our engineers, developers, and scientists build AI-driven solutions, manned and unmanned vehicles, mission-planning tools, and situational-awareness systems for the U.S. defense community.
Role at a glance
Chief Engineer - Undersea Systems is a full-time, senior-level position based on-site in the United States. You will guide multi-disciplinary teams through the full lifecycle of unmanned underwater vehicle projects in a fast-moving R&D setting.
Your impact
- Lead electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers to deliver integrated UUV hardware that meets rigorous safety and performance standards in operational environments.
- Partner directly with customers and end users to capture requirements, share progress, and expand MORSE's undersea capabilities.
- Drive system-level integration, probabilistic modeling, and data analysis to validate performance, troubleshoot anomalies, and guide designs from prototype through production handoff.
What you'll need
- Five to ten years of experience in the unmanned or autonomous underwater vehicle industry, including leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
- Hands-on familiarity with electronics fabrication, soldering, microprocessor programming, 3D printing, or general vehicle fabrication techniques.
- Working knowledge of safety standards such as IEC 61508, Design for Manufacturability principles, and high-mix, low-volume manufacturing partnerships in the defense sector.
- Strong communication skills, a self-starter mindset, and a passion for building and problem-solving.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related field (Master's preferred).
- U.S. citizenship or the ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance.
