About the team:

The Business Insights Team at Luno is an exciting team focused on delivering high impact business insights across the organisation while enabling data driven decision making through self service data products and technologies. The data products that are created, managed, and nurtured by this team will inform the product, commercial, financial, and compliance teams and enable our teams to make rapid, reliable decisions. 

The role in a nutshell:

Your role, as Business Insights Manager, requires you to understand how to build and structure a high performing data team, and how to hire, lead, inspire, manage, and develop the best analysts and data engineers. You’ll need to have a commercial mindset, be an excellent collaborator and be skilled at stakeholder management and prioritisation as you grow the team in strength and success. You get to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, where being confident and comfortable in the face of ambiguity is pivotal to you and your team’s success.

Your mission will be:

• Build a solid high-performing and efficient team through hiring, development, coaching, clear expectation setting and a strong focus on employee experience. 
• Generate enthusiasm around innovation, technical growth, and learning for your team of data analysts and analytical data engineers.
• Create an environment that instils trust, encourages world-class performance and ensures clear transparent communications to align around the overall vision of Data and the Business.
• Guide, grow and focus your team through strategic goal setting of team and individual goals.
• Build and manage a high impact project roadmap that balances the short term needs of business, product and compliance teams (offensive data strategy) with the longer term foundational needs to drive trusted, governed and usable self service data products and technologies (defensive data strategy). 
• Develop relationships across the business with key stakeholders and other Data Managers to deeply understand and manage the varied and complex needs in relevant business areas. 
• Use business and commercial understanding to define strategic tradeoffs, prioritisation and alignment creating clarity and focus for the Business Insights team.

• Ensure timely delivery of trusted outputs through strong planning and prioritisation, collaboration, capacity management, and team focus.
• Guide and develop strategic solution development that takes into account the need for  balancing speed vs quality as needed.
• Help remove blockers, iterating on processes, technologies and skills to continuously improve on challenges and issues within your team through individual coaching and team collaboration.
• Drive the development and adoption of Business Insights operating processes and best practice across the team and the wider data community at Luno.
• Guide the selection of appropriate technology to provide a quality self service data platform, including enabling a trusted, governed and structured data warehouse (currently in Databricks) and accessible and useable BI technologies (currently  Looker).

A little about you: 

• You love working with people, and seeing them grow and succeed
• You have at least 5 years experience working in a Data Business Intelligence function, or similar, as an individual contributor, with credible technical credentials 
• Experience in a people leadership role, coaching, mentoring and developing teams, with a proven track record of delivering results through others
• Experience in building a data function in a scaling organisation
• Highly collaborative with outstanding relationship building skills
• Strong commercial understanding with the ability to guide data usage for highest impact.
• You take control and exercise leadership to lead change by initiating action, giving direction and taking responsibility to ensure delivery of outcomes while simultaneously balancing the your team’s need for autonomy in how they work
• You are great in prioritising, planning and organising your day and can manage your time efficiently
• Working as a team comes naturally to you – it’s all about driving collaboration and teamwork to deliver results
• Adept at problem solving, especially in relation to getting individuals and teams to be the best version of themselves
• Creative and critical thinking abilities
• Nothing holds you back, you have a positive and friendly disposition, with a ‘can do’ attitude
• Familiarity with cryptocurrencies is highly advantageous
