Big Data Engineer at Safari AI

At Safari AI, we are on a mission to automate action for industry leaders in sectors like retail, entertainment, and quick-service restaurants. By leveraging computer vision, we help companies like Universal Orlando, 7-11, and the Charlotte Hornets measure performance and generate real-time operational insights. As a seed-funded startup preparing for our Series A, we are looking for a Senior Big Data Engineer to help us scale our technology and redefine how enterprises utilize their operational data.

Responsibilities

• Define the technical strategy and roadmap for our streaming data processing engine.
• Take a hands-on approach to building and implementing robust data processing solutions.
• Champion engineering best practices, including high-quality system design, clear documentation, and effective communication.
• Collaborate closely with our operations and engineering teams to identify priorities and ensure clear alignment.
• Actively contribute to refining our internal engineering development processes.

Must-haves

• Five to eight years of experience as an individual contributor in software engineering.
• Proven track record of taking complex services from initial concept to a production environment.
• Deep proficiency with big data frameworks, specifically Flink, as well as Hadoop, Beam, or Spark.
• Strong experience with messaging queue systems like Kafka, Pulsar, or RabbitMQ.
• Hands-on experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain system reliability while delivering incremental features.
• Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle and security compliance standards.
• A genuine passion for AI and data, combined with a strong belief in our company mission.
• Professional experience working within both startup and enterprise environments.

Nice-to-haves

• Prior experience in building and mentoring engineering teams.
• A PhD in computer science or a related technical field.
• Background as a previous startup founder.
• Proficiency in frontend frameworks like React or Vue.
• Experience with embedded computer vision frameworks such as TensorRT or Gstreamer.
• Leadership experience in product management for AI or machine learning products.
