The opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer to join our team in San Francisco. You will play a vital role in evolving our foundational accounting platform and expanding our integration capabilities. This position is perfect for someone who enjoys building complex systems that drive real-world business value. You will work closely with our product and leadership teams to integrate with fintech providers and create new revenue-driving features, ensuring our platform remains reliable and scalable as we continue to grow.

A day in the life

• You will take full ownership of our core accounting platform, collaborating with partners and internal teams to unify complex systems and integrate with fintech services like Stripe, Plaid, and Modern Treasury.
• You will design and maintain robust platform components, services, and APIs that serve both our end customers and our internal engineering staff.
• You will troubleshoot production issues across our infrastructure and third-party services, while contributing to our engineering standards and participating in on-call rotations to keep our systems running smoothly.

Who you are

You are a seasoned engineer with a deep passion for building reliable, web-scale products. You thrive in collaborative environments and communicate clearly in English. Your background includes the following:

• At least 5 years of experience in systems engineering with a strong grasp of data structures, object-oriented design, and algorithms.
• Proven expertise in designing distributed systems, including microservices, message queues, and load balancers.
• Proficiency with database technologies, particularly PostgreSQL, and a solid understanding of cloud infrastructure and DevOps practices.
• A proactive mindset toward learning new technologies, especially when navigating legacy accounting systems or ERPs.
• Strong skills in prototyping and validating technical alternatives to ensure we choose the best path forward.
