Backend Software Engineer at Wayfair

Wayfair operates the largest custom e-commerce large parcel network in the United States, managing roughly 1.6 million square meters of logistics space. We are looking for a visionary Backend Software Engineer to join our Fulfilment Optimisation team. Our systems power the entire customer journey, from the moment a shopper browses our site to the final delivery of their order. We handle complex, high-speed data processing to ensure our supply chain remains resilient and efficient, and we want you to help us scale these critical platforms.

Role at a glance

This is a full-time, executive-level position based in Bangalore, India. You will work in a hybrid capacity, coordinating with your team to meet in-person requirements while maintaining the flexibility of our logistics-focused engineering culture.

Your impact

• Lead the technical direction of our fulfillment platforms by driving high-impact architectural decisions and hands-on development.
• Partner closely with business stakeholders to provide the data and transparency needed to optimize our supply chain and improve profitability.
• Champion production readiness by overseeing robust testing, monitoring, and deployment strategies while mentoring peer engineers to elevate the entire team.

What you'll need

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related engineering field.
• At least 12 years of experience in senior engineering or technical leadership roles, with a proven track record of mentoring 10 to 12 individuals.
• Deep expertise in designing and developing scalable distributed systems, microservices, and API design.
• Proficiency with modern programming languages and open-source tools such as Java, Kafka, Kubernetes, and Aerospike.
• A strong grasp of data processing pipelines and cloud technologies, with specific experience in GCP being a significant advantage.
• Excellent communication skills to bridge the gap between technical teams, data scientists, and business stakeholders.
• Fluency in English.
