Backend Software Engineer - Trading at Moment

At Moment, we are modernizing capital markets infrastructure for the wealth management sector, beginning with fixed income. Founded in 2022 by former fixed income quants, we have quickly become a primary infrastructure provider for global fintech firms, traditional brokerages, and registered investment advisors. The fixed income market is expanding rapidly, yet many wealth managers remain tethered to outdated technology. We solve this by providing a comprehensive suite of APIs for data, execution, and portfolio management. Backed by investors like a16z, Venrock, and Neo, we are scaling our operations to serve millions of retail investors and are looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer to join our team in New York City.

Key outcomes

• Design, build, and maintain the core infrastructure that powers our financial products.
• Lead the end-to-end scope, design, and deployment of robust distributed services while balancing reliability, latency, and cost.
• Serve as the technical lead for our backend APIs and core feature sets.
• Contribute to architecture reviews for new product initiatives and infrastructure updates.
• Guide the evolution of our technology stack as we scale to handle hundreds of millions of daily messages.
• Mentor team members and contribute to building a world-class engineering organization.

Requirements

We are looking for candidates who possess a strong foundation in backend engineering and a desire to solve complex, large-scale problems. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where engineering excellence is a priority. While a background in fintech is helpful, it is not required, as we are happy to provide domain-specific training.

• Significant experience in backend engineering, ideally with 5 to 10 years of professional practice.
• Proven ability to architect and build services from the ground up in high-traffic production environments.
• Proficiency or strong familiarity with our core stack, including Go, AWS, Kafka, and Postgres.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems and scalability.
• A commitment to high standards when managing production systems.
• Strong communication skills, a transparent working style, and an empathetic approach to team collaboration.
• A results-oriented mindset focused on driving meaningful impact.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $130,000 to $210,000. Final compensation is determined based on your specific skills and experience. In addition to salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package including:
