We are Rye, a seed-stage startup founded by industry veterans from Twitch, Reddit, and Goldman Sachs. We are dedicated to building the infrastructure that powers modern eCommerce. By creating robust APIs that integrate seamlessly with platforms like Shopify, WooCommerce, and BigCommerce, we help businesses manage everything from order placement and inventory tracking to search and returns. We take pride in our technical foundation, which utilizes Python, Node.js, RESTful APIs, and gRPC. We are currently looking for a talented Senior Backend Engineer to join our remote-first team and help us scale our systems.
What you'll be doing
- You will develop and maintain high-quality APIs to handle complex eCommerce tasks, including order tracking, returns, and search functionality.
- You will build new services and manage infrastructure deployments on GCP to support our growing platform.
- You will take ownership of large-scale projects from start to finish, coordinating across different systems while working in fast-paced, one-week sprints.
What you'll bring
To be successful in this role, you should have a strong background in software engineering and a proactive approach to problem-solving. We are looking for the following qualifications:
- At least 4 years of professional experience in backend engineering.
- Proficiency in Python or Node.js.
- Hands-on experience building systems using RESTful APIs and gRPC.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently within a remote environment.
- A solid grasp of software development best practices.
- Bonus points if you have prior experience with platforms like Shopify, WooCommerce, or BigCommerce, or if you have worked with browser agents or LLMs.
- Fluency in English.
