We are currently looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our remote-first team and help us modernize the tax industry by building innovative, AI-driven products from the ground up.
What you'll be doing
- Design and implement robust systems, including computation engines that automatically update complex, interdependent fields based on evolving tax codes.
- Develop data pipelines and semantic graphs that transform IRS documentation into type-safe, testable code while analyzing millions of tax returns for patterns and optimizations.
- Build and maintain scalable APIs that power our frontend applications and support seamless integration with third-party systems.
What you'll bring
We are looking for an experienced engineer who is comfortable working in a remote, async-first environment. You should possess the following qualifications:
- Proven expertise in designing and maintaining complex backend systems using Python and FastAPI.
- Strong proficiency in database management and data modeling, specifically with PostgreSQL.
- A deep familiarity with Google Cloud infrastructure and CI/CD workflows.
- A proactive mindset with the ability to integrate AI tools, such as Cursor or Windsurf, directly into your daily development workflow.
- A product-focused approach, allowing you to weigh technical tradeoffs against user needs and communicate effectively across the organization.
- Fluency in English to ensure clear collaboration with our global team.
