MediaLab operates at the intersection of private equity, holding company operations, and direct brand management. We focus on acquiring and scaling global media and technology properties, integrating them into our proprietary advertising platform that handles billions of impressions each month. Our team is a diverse group of builders, designers, and engineers spread across our Santa Monica headquarters, New York, and various locations throughout the United States and Latin America. We are currently looking for a skilled professional to join the team behind Kik, our messaging platform that supports hundreds of millions of messages annually.
About the Role
We are searching for a Senior Backend Engineer to join us on a contractor basis. In this position, you will play a vital role in designing, building, and maintaining the infrastructure that keeps our messaging services reliable, secure, and scalable. You will work within our engineering team to improve existing codebases while contributing to the development of new features and automating our deployment and monitoring processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and enhance our existing Java codebase while developing new features and writing comprehensive tests.
- Design and manage infrastructure as code using Terraform, Ansible, and CloudFormation to ensure consistent system performance.
- Automate the deployment and management of servers and containers through Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, ArgoCD, and GitHub Actions.
Requirements
We are looking for someone who brings a strong technical background and a proactive approach to problem solving. Your qualifications should include:
- At least 4 years of professional experience in software engineering.
- A solid grasp of Java, with additional knowledge of Golang being a plus.
- Proven experience with microservices, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Hands-on experience managing infrastructure on Amazon or GCP.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and ETL processes.
- The ability to manage multiple projects independently and a commitment to smart automation.
- A BS degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred, though not required.
