At MediaLab, we operate at the intersection of media and technology, functioning as a hybrid of a private equity firm, a holding company, and an active operating entity. We focus on acquiring and scaling prominent global brands, integrating them into our internal advertising platform that handles billions of impressions each month. Our team is a diverse collection of engineers, designers, and business builders spread across Santa Monica, New York, and various locations throughout the United States and Latin America. We are currently looking for a talented individual to join the team behind Kik, our messaging platform that facilitates hundreds of millions of messages every year.
The opportunity
As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will play a vital role in the evolution of the Kik platform. You will work within a distributed team to design, build, and maintain a secure, scalable, and reliable infrastructure. Your work will directly impact how our messaging services grow, as you will be responsible for improving our existing codebase while contributing to the development of new features. We are looking for someone who can bridge the gap between software development and DevOps, ensuring our systems remain efficient and consistent as we continue to scale.
A day in the life
- You will maintain and enhance our existing Java codebase while writing comprehensive tests for both legacy systems and new feature implementations.
- You will design and manage infrastructure as code using tools like Terraform, Ansible, and CloudFormation to ensure our environment remains robust.
- You will automate the deployment and monitoring of our services and containers by utilizing Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, ArgoCD, and GitHub Actions.
Who you are
You are a seasoned professional with at least four years of experience in software engineering. You possess a strong grasp of Java, and while not required, having experience with Golang is considered a great asset. You are comfortable working with microservices, distributed systems, and cloud environments like Amazon or GCP. You have a natural bias toward smart automation and take pride in implementing industry best practices. You are a clear communicator in English who can manage multiple projects independently without needing constant oversight. Whether you are debugging production issues or conducting code reviews to ensure quality, you are dedicated to building reliable and secure systems.
Why you'll love it here
We believe that our strength lies in the diverse backgrounds and unique perspectives of our team members. We are committed to fostering an inclusive and equal opportunity workplace where everyone can thrive. As part of our commitment to flexibility, this role is fully remote, allowing you to contribute to our mission from anywhere.
