Backend Engineer at CleverTap

At CleverTap, we are building the leading all-in-one customer engagement platform that helps brands unlock limitless customer lifetime value. Trusted by over 2,000 global brands like Domino’s, Zomato, and Tesco, our platform is powered by TesseractDB, the world’s first purpose-built database for customer engagement. We operate at an immense scale, processing hundreds of millions of messages daily and handling tens of thousands of requests per second across our production clusters. We are looking for a Junior Backend Engineer to join our team in India on a full-time, hybrid basis. You will work alongside our product managers, team leads, and QA engineers to own projects from inception to completion, ensuring our code remains secure, readable, and highly maintainable.

Key outcomes

• Develop robust server-side scripts and APIs to support both frontend engineers and internal microservices.
• Optimize our server infrastructure to ensure peak speed and long-term stability.
• Implement rigorous security structures and create reusable code libraries to streamline our development processes.
• Design and manage efficient data storage solutions.
• Collaborate directly with the product team to define feature requirements, estimate delivery timelines, and document technical specifications.

Requirements

• 1 to 3 years of professional experience working with algorithms, data structures, and programming.
• Proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language, specifically Java or C#.
• Hands-on experience with Publish/Subscribe systems such as RabbitMQ, Kafka, or similar tools.
• Strong working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases.
• A commitment to writing clean, testable, and maintainable code.
• Strong analytical problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively within an Agile team environment.
• Fluency in English.

Preferred qualifications

• Practical experience with MongoDB, Redis, or AWS cloud services.
• Background in building or maintaining distributed systems.
• Familiarity with frontend technologies, including TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3, and Vue.js.
