Backend Engineer at Whalar

Our diverse team of 300 professionals is united by the belief that everything is better with creators, and we are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our remote-friendly development squads.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain robust features for our backend services.
• Collaborate with product and data science teams to build data-driven solutions.
• Expand and refine our microservices architecture.
• Integrate third-party services and enhance our data ingestion infrastructure.
• Write clean, maintainable code while following agile methodologies.
• Perform performance analysis, monitoring, and bug tracking for our platform.
• Improve system security and create comprehensive technical documentation.
• Measure product success and contribute to high-availability deployments using Docker and AWS.

Must-haves

• At least 4 years of professional backend development experience using PHP, Java, or C#.
• Strong understanding of microservices architecture and REST APIs.
• Proven track record of applying SOLID principles, clean code, and TDD.
• Practical experience with Symfony or Laravel frameworks.
• Proficiency with Docker and AWS environments.
• Experience with unit and integration testing, as well as code analysis tools.
• Strong command of the English language.

Nice-to-haves

• Advanced expertise in PHP 7.4+ and modern framework usage.
• Experience with message brokers like RabbitMQ or Kafka.
• Working knowledge of Python or NodeJS.
• Familiarity with Elasticsearch.
