We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our team in a full-time, hybrid capacity. At Memfault, we operate the first IoT reliability platform that helps hardware teams build robust devices at scale. Our technology stack is exceptionally broad, spanning from SDKs for microcontrollers to large-scale data processing and complex frontend charting. We are a team of experienced generalists, including former principal engineers from major tech companies, and we pride ourselves on a culture that values kindness, low egos, and high-impact engineering.
Responsibilities
- Architect and scale our distributed systems, infrastructure, and storage solutions to support tens of millions of connected devices.
- Identify and resolve complex performance bottlenecks to help our platform scale to 10x our current capacity.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to transform ambiguous business requirements into practical, high-quality technical solutions.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional experience building highly available and scalable distributed systems.
- Strong proficiency in developing web applications using Python.
- Deep experience with writing, debugging, and optimizing SQL, along with designing scalable multi-tenant database architectures.
- A passion for maintaining high standards through unit and integration testing.
- Familiarity with our core stack, which includes TypeScript, Node.js, React, PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, Redis, RabbitMQ, and AWS.
- An interest in learning about hardware and embedded software environments.
What we offer
For candidates based in our Boston location, the salary range for this position is $70,000 to $180,000, though final compensation may vary based on your specific skills, experience, and location. In addition to competitive pay, we provide the following benefits:
