Backend Engineer - Systems Data at Memfault

The role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our team on a full-time basis. This is a high-impact role where you will design and scale the web services and data pipelines that keep millions of devices running smoothly. You will work in a hybrid capacity, collaborating with a group of experienced engineers who have backgrounds at both startups and large technology companies. Core responsibilities

• Architect and maintain distributed systems and storage infrastructure capable of supporting tens of millions of devices.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks to help our platform scale to 10x its current capacity.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to translate complex business needs into pragmatic, reliable technical solutions.

Skills and experience

To be successful in this role, you should bring the following qualifications:

• At least 5 years of professional experience building highly available and scalable distributed systems.
• Strong proficiency in Python and experience developing web applications.
• Deep knowledge of SQL, including the ability to write, debug, and optimize complex queries for multi-tenant database solutions.
• Familiarity with our core tech stack, which includes TypeScript, Node.js, React, PostgreSQL, ClickHouse, Redis, RabbitMQ, and AWS.
• A commitment to rigorous testing practices and a genuine curiosity about hardware and embedded software.
• A collaborative, low-ego approach to teamwork.

Compensation and benefits

For candidates based in our Boston location, the salary range for this position is $70,000 to $180,000, though final compensation may vary based on your specific skills, experience, and location. We also provide a comprehensive benefits package, which includes:
