Backend Engineer Data Platform at LaunchDarkly

As a Senior Backend Engineer on our Data Platform team, you will play a critical role in building the infrastructure that processes trillions of events, powering the insights that drive our internal and external products.

What you'll be doing

• Design and scale robust data pipelines and products that support our experimentation, metrics, product analytics, and internal business intelligence needs.
• Partner closely with frontend engineers, product managers, and UX designers to create impactful, user-facing features.
• Take ownership of production systems by monitoring performance, optimizing databases, and participating in our on-call rotation to ensure high availability.

What you'll bring

We are looking for a seasoned engineer with at least 5 years of backend experience and a strong background in data engineering. You should be comfortable working in a collaborative, high-trust environment where code quality and maintainability are top priorities. Your technical toolkit should include:

• Proven experience building product-focused data pipelines or data warehouses.
• Hands-on expertise with AWS-based technologies such as Kinesis, Airflow, Spark, Lambda, Flink, or Athena.
• Experience managing analytical data sets within databases like Clickhouse, Postgres, ElasticSearch, Timestream, or Snowflake.
• A solid grasp of computer science fundamentals, including distributed systems, concurrency, and data structures.
• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform and observability platforms like Datadog.
• Fluency in English to communicate effectively within our global team.

What you'll get

We offer a competitive salary range based on your location within the United States:

• Zone 1 (San Francisco/Bay Area or NYC Metro): $167,000 - $210,000
• Zone 2 (Boston, DC, Irvine, LA, Monterey, Santa Barbara, Santa Rosa, Seattle): $150,200 - $190,000
• Zone 3 (All other US locations): $141,900 - $180,000
