Back-end Engineer at Winona

Winona is a leader in the telemedicine space, dedicated to providing hormone replacement therapy for women navigating menopause. We operate a fully vertically integrated business model that includes two compounding pharmacies and a team of in-house physicians, all supported by our proprietary technology stack that encompasses our EHR, patient portal, and internal administrative systems. We are looking for a Back-end Engineer to join our product team and help us scale the systems that support our patients and medical staff.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the backend services and APIs that drive our telehealth platform.
• Manage and optimize integrations with third-party tools, with a specific focus on Stripe.
• Design and refine our backend architecture to ensure high performance and reliability.
• Implement secure authentication and authorization protocols, including OIDC, to safeguard sensitive patient information.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues independently to maintain system uptime.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners to deliver features that meet the needs of our doctors and support teams.
• Write clean, testable code and participate in peer code reviews to maintain high engineering standards.
• Provide reliable technical coverage during U.S. business hours.

Must-haves

• At least 3 years of professional experience with a focus on backend engineering.
• Strong proficiency in ExpressJS, PostgreSQL, and the design of RESTful APIs.
• Deep programming expertise in at least one modern language such as Node.js, Python, Go, or Java.
• Solid understanding of database design, system architecture, and authentication mechanisms like OAuth2 or JWT.
• Experience working with containerization tools such as Docker.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
• Fluency in English.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience documenting APIs using the OpenAPI Specification 2 (OAS2).
• Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Experience with Kubernetes and agile development methodologies.
