Winona is a leader in the telemedicine space, dedicated to providing hormone replacement therapy for women navigating menopause. We operate a fully vertically integrated business model that includes two compounding pharmacies and a team of in-house physicians, all supported by our proprietary technology stack that encompasses our EHR, patient portal, and internal administrative systems. We are looking for a Back-end Engineer to join our product team and help us scale the systems that support our patients and medical staff.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the backend services and APIs that drive our telehealth platform.
- Manage and optimize integrations with third-party tools, with a specific focus on Stripe.
- Design and refine our backend architecture to ensure high performance and reliability.
- Implement secure authentication and authorization protocols, including OIDC, to safeguard sensitive patient information.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues independently to maintain system uptime.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners to deliver features that meet the needs of our doctors and support teams.
- Write clean, testable code and participate in peer code reviews to maintain high engineering standards.
- Provide reliable technical coverage during U.S. business hours.
Must-haves
- At least 3 years of professional experience with a focus on backend engineering.
- Strong proficiency in ExpressJS, PostgreSQL, and the design of RESTful APIs.
- Deep programming expertise in at least one modern language such as Node.js, Python, Go, or Java.
- Solid understanding of database design, system architecture, and authentication mechanisms like OAuth2 or JWT.
- Experience working with containerization tools such as Docker.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
- Fluency in English.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience documenting APIs using the OpenAPI Specification 2 (OAS2).
- Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Experience with Kubernetes and agile development methodologies.
