Winona is a leader in the telemedicine space, dedicated to providing hormone replacement therapy for women navigating menopause. We operate a fully vertically integrated business model that includes two compounding pharmacies and a team of in-house physicians, all supported by our proprietary technology stack that encompasses our EHR, patient portal, and internal administrative systems. We are looking for a Back-end Engineer to join our product team and help us scale the systems that support our patients and medical staff.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain the backend services and APIs that drive our telehealth platform.
Manage and optimize integrations with third-party tools, with a specific focus on Stripe.
Design and refine our backend architecture to ensure high performance and reliability.
Implement secure authentication and authorization protocols, including OIDC, to safeguard sensitive patient information.
Troubleshoot and resolve production issues independently to maintain system uptime.
Collaborate with cross-functional partners to deliver features that meet the needs of our doctors and support teams.
Write clean, testable code and participate in peer code reviews to maintain high engineering standards.
Provide reliable technical coverage during U.S. business hours.

Must-haves

At least 3 years of professional experience with a focus on backend engineering.
Strong proficiency in ExpressJS, PostgreSQL, and the design of RESTful APIs.
Deep programming expertise in at least one modern language such as Node.js, Python, Go, or Java.
Solid understanding of database design, system architecture, and authentication mechanisms like OAuth2 or JWT.
Experience working with containerization tools such as Docker.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
Fluency in English.

Nice-to-haves

Experience documenting APIs using the OpenAPI Specification 2 (OAS2).
Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
Experience with Kubernetes and agile development methodologies.
