The role
We are looking for a mid-level Automation Engineer to join our team in a full-time, on-site capacity. In this role, you will serve as the system owner for our Process Control and Building Automation Systems at our Rockville, Maryland site. You will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of these systems, from initial design and budgeting to commissioning and long-term operational management.
Core responsibilities
- Oversee the automation function by managing improvements, system upgrades, and the implementation of new process control systems from concept through validation.
- Provide essential technical support, including hands-on diagnostics and troubleshooting for manufacturing operations, while maintaining system performance and data integrity.
- Collaborate with industry experts to establish automation standards, develop technical specifications, and ensure all systems align with our operational requirements.
Skills and experience
To be successful in this position, you should possess the following qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering, or a related field in the Life Sciences.
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in the operation and troubleshooting of automation systems, such as PLC and DCS.
- A solid understanding of cGMP environments, 21 CFR Part 11, and GAMP standards.
- Proficiency with automation platforms such as DeltaV, Siemens, Honeywell, Ignition, or Allen-Bradley.
- Technical competence with MS Office Suite, project management software, network infrastructure, and server maintenance.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to manage contractors and vendors effectively.
