We are The Boring Company, and we are on a mission to eliminate soul-crushing traffic by building an extensive network of underground tunnels. Our team is focused on revolutionizing tunneling technology to drastically increase speed and reduce costs, which will eventually make Hyperloop transit a reality for crowded regions. We are looking for a Senior Automation Control Software Engineer to join our team on a full-time, on-site basis in the United States.
Responsibilities
- Create, implement, and deploy software for PLCs that manage the hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems of our tunnel boring machines.
- Develop intuitive user interfaces and provide direct support to operators throughout the mining process.
- Prioritize safety by building robust alerting mechanisms and lockout protocols to ensure secure operations.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to integrate control techniques into complex mechatronic systems.
- Manage and maintain software for safety-critical applications involving various sensors and actuators.
Must-haves
- A Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- Strong proficiency in C or C++ for application development.
- Experience with modern development workflows, including Git, unit testing, and both Linux and Windows environments.
- A deep understanding of software fundamentals such as backend infrastructure, modular design, and code maintainability.
- Fluency in English and the ability to work long hours, weekends, and travel on short notice up to 20% of the time.
Nice-to-haves
- Proven experience applying control techniques to electrical or mechatronic systems.
- Practical experience working with Beckhoff, Siemens, or Allen Bradley PLCs.
- A background in developing software for safety-critical environments.
