At Xero our Subscription & Billing team brings in more than a billion dollars of revenue each year. We are building the billing engine that powers the entire platform, focusing on speed, easy integration, clear insights, and a polished self-service experience for customers. We are now looking for an Associate Engineer to help us keep that engine running smoothly.
What is this role?
This is a full-time, junior-level engineering position based in New Zealand. The role follows a hybrid work pattern, so you will split your time between the office and working from home.
What will you do?
- Write and maintain high-quality code in both our .NET/C# backend and React frontend, always with guidance from senior engineers.
- Design and run tests that confirm our software meets agreed quality standards and acceptance criteria.
- Investigate and fix issues that arise during development or in production, helping identify root causes and communicating their impact to the team.
What makes you a great fit?
You will bring at least one year of professional software development experience and feel confident working in a primary language and its surrounding tools. Our stack centres on .NET/C# on the backend and React on the frontend, so familiarity with either-or both-will help you contribute quickly. You should be comfortable debugging on your own machine, making small design choices in code, and supporting the APIs and client interfaces our team owns. A working knowledge of DevOps practices such as continuous integration and delivery, containerisation, monitoring, and alerting is important; we rely on AWS for most of this work. Because collaboration happens in English, fluency in that language is essential.
What's in it for you?
Beyond the work itself, you will enjoy the flexibility of our hybrid model, giving you the balance of focused office collaboration and the comfort of working from home on other days.
