Associate Director, Software Engineering at Chewy

At Chewy, we are currently building a new Sponsored Advertising business that creates a valuable ecosystem for our shoppers, brand partners, and our company. This initiative helps pet owners discover new products and promotions while allowing brands to reach their target audience more effectively. We are looking for a talented leader to help us build this platform from the ground up and drive significant impact across our e-commerce operations.

What is this role?

We are seeking an Associate Director, Software Engineering to join our team in a full-time, executive-level capacity. This is a critical leadership position where you will help define our technical strategy for search, relevance, ranking, and auction systems. You will work closely with product managers and cross-functional leaders to deliver innovative solutions that provide real value to our customers.

What will you do?

• Lead and manage the roadmap for large-scale, distributed systems that process high volumes of data with low latency.
• Oversee teams of software engineers and managers, while actively recruiting and mentoring talent to foster a strong engineering culture.
• Drive technical decision-making and collaborate with product teams to prioritize engineering investments that align with our long-term business objectives.

You should have a strong background in software development and a passion for building scalable solutions. We are looking for someone who communicates clearly and leads with a data-driven mindset. Key requirements include:

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 10 years of experience in software development and 5 years in engineering management.
• Expertise in building and scaling cloud-based solutions using AWS.
• Proficiency in designing high-throughput, distributed systems.
• Fluency in English.
• Bonus points if you have experience with machine learning, digital advertising, or e-commerce technology stacks.
