Who You Are:
As an Art Director, you will be involved in defining and articulating the brand’s visual language across multiple platforms through the medium of photography and video. You are a beauty obsessed, enthusiastic leader able to direct external creative partners (photographers, content creators, illustrators, retouchers, editors, etc). The ideal candidate will have experience putting together in-depth creative decks and briefs and thorough knowledge of all pre and post production. Basic retouching and video editing experience are necessary. As part of our team, you would work on seasonal campaigns, product launches, and help us change the way the world thinks about sunscreen. This position reports to the Creative Director and is on a hybrid office schedule.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Creative Director on defining the brand vision and aesthetic; use this knowledge to prepare comprehensive creative briefs to share with internal stakeholders and external partners. Be comfortable and confident in presenting concepts and vision.
- Participate in creative briefings, and partner closely with internal partners to fully understand project briefs in order to deliver on overall brand strategy.
- Own art directing product and model motion and still photography. Can concept still and motion imagery, communicate vision through sketch/storyboard and swipe, and partner with the production team to bring that imagery to life.
- Work closely with the Creative Director to make selects and keep the post-production process moving.
- Review and mark-up retouching in a timely fashion. Drive the retouching process; be able to collaborate/trouble shoot on challenging imagery.
- Review video edits in a timely fashion. Drive the editing process; be able to collaborate and provide feedback/examples to external partners.
- Ability to provide direction and feedback on regionally produced in situ/location photography.
- Create and ensure that all content adheres to brand guidelines. Have a holistic appreciation of all brand assets and visual language.
- Deep understanding of brand codes and needs for key partners (Sephora, Ulta, etc)
- Ability to push the envelope creatively while still staying on brand
- Ability to make recommendations for new partners who are on brand (photographers, editors, retouchers, etc.)
Qualifications/Experience:
- 6-8 years of related experience with strong design background including concept development, art direction, production. Photography background a plus.
- Beauty/Sephora/Lifestyle Brand Experience strongly preferred
- Ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment; can adapt quickly to changing priorities
- Strong visual design aesthetic with a genuine alignment with the brand creative vision
- Entrepreneurial spirit
- Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (Ps, Ai, Id, CaptureOne) (After Effects or other motion graphics tools a plus)
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Extremely detail and deadline oriented. Able to own projects and deliverables independently
- Commitment to excellence and the highest standards of quality as well as a strong design sensibility
- A strong desire and commitment to contribute to the brand ethos and grow with the brand
- Some travel required
- Open to spending 3 days/week in NYC based office
Salary is commensurate with experience and ranges from $120,000 - $130,000
