Area Backend Lead at Manychat

We are currently looking for an Area Backend Lead to join our team in Spain, working in a hybrid capacity to guide one of our product areas alongside cross-functional teams.

Key outcomes

• Provide technical leadership and make critical decisions regarding product architecture.
• Ensure the timely delivery of new features while maintaining existing system stability.
• Define and uphold high standards for engineering excellence.
• Participate in code reviews, system design sessions, and hands-on coding to mentor team members and resolve complex challenges.
• Contribute to the creation and maintenance of our technical roadmap.
• Inspire, recruit, and develop a high-performing software engineering team through regular one-on-one meetings and personalized development plans.
• Foster a culture of feedback and act as an ambassador for our engineering practices.
• Evaluate team performance and provide guidance to ensure continuous improvement.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of experience working in a product-focused team as a PHP developer, with proficiency in PHP 8.
• A proven track record of leading and scaling cross-functional teams, including at least two years of experience in an Engineering Manager capacity.
• Extensive hands-on technical background in software development and architecture gained from years of working as a senior engineer.
• Deep expertise in backend development and system design.
• A desire to dedicate approximately 30 percent of your time to hands-on technical tasks such as architecture reviews and coding.
• Strong familiarity with Agile values and principles.
• Professional proficiency in English.
