The role

We are seeking a mid-level Arborist to join us on a contractor basis. This is a remote position open to candidates based in the United States. You will work in close collaboration with our Lead Arborist to analyze imagery, identify tree species, and assess overall tree health to support our grid safety initiatives.

Core responsibilities

• Analyze satellite imagery to identify specific tree species and detect signs of declining tree health.
• Perform quality control on team outputs, including verifying tree species, hazard assessments, vegetation encroachment, and overhang measurements.
• Maintain high standards of accuracy while working independently to support our vegetation risk analysis.

Skills and experience

To succeed in this role, you should have a background in forestry or arboriculture, with a preference for those who are ISA Certified Arborists. You must be proficient with GIS tools such as QGIS and ArcGIS. We are looking for someone who possesses the following qualifications:

• Proven experience in interpreting tree characteristics through satellite imagery.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
• A collaborative mindset with a willingness to seek and incorporate feedback.

Compensation and benefits

This role offers the flexibility of remote work. As a contractor, you will typically work between 10 and 20 hours per week under an indefinite agreement, with hours that fluctuate based on seasonal demand.
